Vietnam basics: what works differently in Nha Trang
Visa, money, mobile and driving rules are the same across the whole country, so this page covers only the Nha Trang side of each topic: a distant airport, new addresses after the 2025 reform, a sea with a protected zone and an autumn rainy season. For entry rules we link straight to the official government portals.

Visa and entry
International flights use terminal T2 at Cam Ranh airport. Keep your visa file or printout available offline and check on the official e-visa portal that Cam Ranh is listed as a port of entry. Whether you need a visa at all depends on your passport — see the answer below.
The terminal's official website does not describe exchange counters or ATMs in the arrivals hall, so it helps to have some dong for the ride into town. The airport taxi has a published fare in dong; markets and buses run on cash.
Mobile service has no local peculiarities: operators and plans are nationwide. The only Nha Trang detail is that the ride from the airport takes about an hour, and an offline map with your hotel's address helps if you buy a SIM card in town.
Since 2023 the Xanh SM electric taxi has operated in Nha Trang, booked through its app or the 1900 2088 hotline. Fixed fares are published for the airport, and the cheapest way is bus no. 18.
Since 1 July 2025 addresses show a ward instead of the city of Nha Trang: Nha Trang, Bắc, Tây or Nam Nha Trang. Marketplaces and couriers accept the new names; ask your host for the exact new form of your address.
Nha Trang is on the main North–South line; the station is in the centre, on Thái Nguyên street next to the cathedral. Tickets are sold on the official website dsvn.vn.
The local risks are about the sea and the weather: autumn storms, waves on open beaches, the rules of the marine protected area and wild monkeys on the island in Nha Phu Bay.
Vinmec hospital on Trần Phú street states round-the-clock emergency care; the largest public facility is the provincial hospital at 19 Yersin street. Details are on the page for residents.

Editorial guidance
Not just a list. A clear way to choose.
01 · Arrival
The airport is far — plan your first hour
Nha Trang's main difference from many resorts: the airport is on the Cam Ranh peninsula, about 35 kilometres from the city. That means your first hour after landing is spent on the road, and for departure you should leave three to three and a half hours ahead. Save your hotel's address in Vietnamese, have cash for the bus or rely on the published taxi fare.
02 · Addresses
A city that no longer exists on paper
After the 2025 reform Nha Trang remains a name on the map and in conversation, but it disappeared as an administrative unit. Official addresses now refer to the wards of Nha Trang, Bắc Nha Trang, Tây Nha Trang and Nam Nha Trang in Khánh Hòa province. Bookings, maps and signs are updated unevenly, so navigate by street and house number and use the new form in documents.
03 · Calendar
The rain comes in autumn
Weather advice written for other regions of the country doesn't work here. According to the provincial administration, the rainy season lasts from mid-September to mid-December, and more than half of the annual rainfall comes in October and November. Summer, by contrast, is dry and hot. This affects everything, from choosing the month to the cancellation terms of a boat trip.
04 · Sea
A bay with rules
Part of Nha Trang Bay is a marine protected area managed by a state body. In 2022 swimming at Hòn Mun island was suspended to let the reef recover; by 2026 visitors are admitted to marked zones. Don't touch coral, don't feed fish, keep your distance from turtles — here that is a requirement, not a courtesy.
Before you go
Check four things for an easier day.
01
Check on the official e-visa portal that Cam Ranh airport is on the list of ports of entry.
02
Save your accommodation's address offline in the new form, with the ward name.
03
Have dong ready for the ride from the airport: 50,000 for the bus or 300,000–400,000 for a taxi.
04
Before going to sea, check the storm warnings of the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.
Quick answers
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a visa for Vietnam?+
It depends on your passport. As of 22.09.2026: citizens of the United Kingdom and eleven other countries, including Germany and South Korea, may stay 45 days without a visa until 14.03.2028 (Resolution 44/NQ-CP); citizens of twelve other European countries, including Switzerland and the Netherlands, get 45 days for tourism until 14.08.2028 (Resolution 229/NQ-CP). The United States, Canada and Australia are not on the exemption list: their citizens need a visa, for example the e-visa, issued to all nationalities for up to 90 days on evisa.gov.vn (25 USD single entry, 50 USD multiple entry). Local detail for Nha Trang: you land at Cam Ranh.
Can I pay by card in the airport taxi?+
If you book through the app with a linked card, yes. The airport's official website says nothing about payment terminals at the taxi desks, so it is safer to have cash in dong.
How should I write an address in Nha Trang now?+
Street and house number, then the ward — phường Nha Trang, Bắc Nha Trang, Tây Nha Trang or Nam Nha Trang — then tỉnh Khánh Hòa. The city name is no longer used in the official form, but couriers and taxi drivers understand it.
Does Nha Trang have a railway station?+
Yes, in the city centre on Thái Nguyên street. Nha Trang is one of the stops on the main North–South line. See timetables and tickets on the official railway website dsvn.vn.
What matters most for safety here?+
The sea and the weather. In autumn watch the storm warnings, swim near lifeguard posts, choose boats with a life jacket for every passenger, and don't hand-feed the animals on Monkey Island.
Where can a visitor get help?+
The province runs a tourist information and support centre under its investment, trade and tourism promotion centre; its contacts are published on Khánh Hòa's official tourism portal.
