01What it is
According to the provincial tourism centre, Xóm Mới was built in the 1960s and is one of Nha Trang's oldest markets; more than one and a half thousand vendors trade here today. The market stands on Ngô Gia Tự street, a few blocks from the seafront. The rows are divided into fresh seafood — prawns, squid, crabs, shellfish — dried goods such as one-sun-dried squid and dried fish, ready-to-eat food and a small souvenir section with embroidery and crafts.
02How to plan your visit
Come in the morning, when the catch arrives and the food rows are open: here you can try bánh xèo, bún cá and bánh canh, which the centre names as typical of the market. Walk the fish rows, then the dried goods, and finish with fruit. From the market you can walk to the cathedral and to Trần Phú seafront, so it fits well into a morning walk through the centre, especially if you are staying in an apartment with a kitchen.
03What to check
The source page gives no official opening hours — plan for the morning and the first half of the day and check on site. The floor in the fish rows is wet, so wear closed, non-slip shoes. Confirm price and weight before buying; small notes make paying easier.
Before you goIf you rent a place with a kitchen, buy seafood here in the morning: the choice is wider than at the supermarket.
Access, opening hours and prices can change. Confirm the conditions right before you pay or leave.
