01What it is
Long Sơn stands on 23/10 street at the foot of a hill west of the centre. The provincial tourism portal calls it the headquarters of Khánh Hòa's Buddhist sangha and wrote that in 2019 the pagoda was 133 years old. Its landmark is a huge seated Buddha at the top of the hill, reached by a staircase; the national portal gives its height as about 78 feet. It is an active temple, not a museum: services are held in the halls and monks live in the courtyard.
02How to plan your visit
First visit the main hall at the foot, then climb the stairs: there are resting spots along the way, and at the top the white Buddha and a view of the city and the mountains. The climb isn't difficult but is tiring in the heat, so go in the morning. The pagoda is near the station and the cathedral, so the three stops form one walking or short-taxi arc with a visit to Đầm market.
03What to check
Entry to the pagoda is free; if someone at the gate insists on a paid tour, incense or an “obligatory donation”, calmly decline. Dress with covered shoulders and knees and take your shoes off at the entrance to the halls. Check the halls' visiting hours on site: some rooms may be closed at lunchtime.
Before you goTake water and go before ten in the morning: the stairs to the statue have almost no shade.
Access, opening hours and prices can change. Confirm the conditions right before you pay or leave.
