Day trip
Dốc Lết: white dunes between two bays
Dốc Lết lies on a narrow strip between Nha Trang's bay and Vân Phong, the largest bay in the province: to reach the water you cross white sand dunes tens of metres high. It is a full-day trip — far, but with one of the cleanest beaches in the province at the end.
Where it is
In the north of the province, in the area of the former town of Ninh Hòa. The provincial tourism centre gives 49 km from central Nha Trang via highway QL1A, the national portal about 60 km.

Cross the dunes to the beach, swim in shallow turquoise water, have a seafood lunch and be back in the city before dark.
On the way
The road passes the Hòn Khói salt fields — a signature landscape of the province's northern coast.
Getting there
This is the most distant of the beach trips to the north — plan a full day, not half.
Distance

How to get there
We found no confirmed public transport route to the beach; the practical option is a taxi for the day or a car with a driver. The road goes through the former town of Ninh Hòa.
On the road
On the approach to Dốc Lết lie the Hòn Khói salt fields, which, according to the provincial portal, produce a salt known across the region — worth a short stop if time allows.
On the beach
The beach is divided between developed zones with paid entry; each has its own conditions.
Dunes and the way to the sea
High white dunes separate the road from the shore — the walk across the sand is part of the experience.
The water
The provincial portal describes the water as clear and turquoise — a contrast with the more ordinary sea within the city.
Food
Seafood restaurants operate along the coast; ask the price per weight before you order — a general rule for coastal restaurants in the province.
Vân Phong Bay next door
Dốc Lết sits on the southern edge of the province's largest bay — you can extend the day with views of it.
Size of the bay
The provincial portal puts the area of Vân Phong at about 503 square kilometres — the largest bay in Khánh Hòa.
Hòn Khói salt fields
On the approach lie salt fields which, according to the provincial portal, produce a salt known across the region — a recognisable landscape of this part of the coast.
Further north
Beyond Dốc Lết, highway QL1A continues to Đại Lãnh beach on the provincial border — a separate, even longer trip that should not be combined with Dốc Lết in one day.
Before you leave
Quick checklist
- 01Leave before seven in the morning — the drive is long and the sun on white sand burns by noon.
- 02Agree a fixed return time with the driver.
- 03Ask the beach zone you choose what the entry fee includes: sunbed, shower, fresh water.
- 04Plan the trip for the dry season, February to August — the road and the sea are more predictable.
- 05Don't combine Dốc Lết and Đại Lãnh in one day: they are two separate long trips.

Frequently asked questions
How long does it take to get to Dốc Lết?+
Official sources give different figures: 49 kilometres according to the provincial tourism centre or about 60 according to the national portal. Either way, it is a full-day trip.
How is Dốc Lết different from the city beach?+
Cleaner turquoise water, high white dunes and noticeably fewer people — but the drive is many times longer than to Trần Phú beach in the city.
Can I get there by bus?+
We found no confirmed public route straight to the beach. Count on a taxi or a car with a driver for the day.
Is it worth stopping at the Hòn Khói salt fields?+
If time allows, yes — they are on the way and add variety to the landscape. The fields have no tourist programme of their own; it is more of a roadside stop.
Can I see Vân Phong Bay from Dốc Lết?+
The beach lies on the southern edge of this bay, the largest in the province, so part of the panorama is visible from here. To explore the bay properly you need a separate, even longer trip.
