01What it is
Hòn Bà is a nature reserve in the mountains of the former Cam Lâm district. Pages of the tourism portal give the summit height as 1578 or 1554 metres; according to the portal the average temperature at the top is 17–20 degrees, a sharp contrast with the coast. Alexandre Yersin worked here: the portal writes that his workplace, vegetable beds and experimental plantings survive on the summit. The road to the top is a series of hairpin bends through humid mountain forest, and it is part of the experience in itself.
02How to plan your visit
The provincial portal reported that from 14 June 2024 an open-top bus runs to the summit with a guide who talks about the flora and fauna; check with the organisers whether it still runs and on what terms. Independent visitors go by car or motorbike, but the hairpin road is narrow, with fog and wet asphalt — a route for confident drivers. At the top: the Yersin memorial site, forest trails and viewpoints. The weather changes within minutes.
03What to check
The bus tour prices in the publication date from 2024, so we don't quote them. Find out whether you need a permit to enter the reserve in your own vehicle. Take a jacket and a rain poncho even on a hot day: at the top it is damp and more than ten degrees colder than on the beach.
Before you goLeave early: after midday the summit is more often wrapped in cloud, and there will be no views.
Access, opening hours and prices can change. Confirm the conditions right before you pay or leave.
