01What it is
Hoa Lan is called an island, but the provincial tourism centre clarifies that it is the shore of the Hòn Hèo peninsula in the Nha Phu lagoon, about twenty kilometres north of the city. The main attractions are a clear stream with cascades, a collection of many orchid varieties and landscaped alleys, including a path decorated with nón lá conical hats. The centre also mentions remains of Cham culture with inscriptions on stones. The operator Long Phú adds enclosures with deer and ostriches, a butterfly garden and a bird show.
02How to plan your visit
You get there by boat from the Long Phú pier; the operator offers no separate land route for tourists. On the standard day tour Hoa Lan is the first stop: a walk up the stream to the cascades, the gardens, the show, then the transfer to Monkey Island. It is a calm, shady programme that suits children and older relatives who find the open sun hard. Bring swimwear: you can cool off in the stream and on the beach.
03What to check
The tourism centre's page gives no separate official hours or entry price; the operator sells the area as part of a lagoon tour — see the current programme and price on its website. In the dry season the stream runs low, and after rain the path along the water is slippery.
Before you goBring insect repellent: mosquitoes are more active by the forest stream than on the city beach.
