01What it is
Hòn Tre, also called Hòn Lớn, is the largest island in the bay: pages of the tourism portal give its area as 30 to 36 square kilometres. It sits opposite the city and shields it from the open sea, which is why the city beach is calmer than the outer shores. The side facing the city is taken up by the Vingroup resort cluster: Vinpearl hotels, the VinWonders Nha Trang park and the Vinpearl Harbour waterfront, opened in January 2024. The rest of the island is green slopes where tourists are not taken.
02How to plan your visit
The main way over is the cable car from the station at the southern end of Trần Phú street; according to the operator it is included in the park ticket, and when it is closed guests are taken across by speedboat. Plan a full day for the island: the park opens in the morning and in the evening the waterfront runs its shows. Combining Hòn Tre with other islands on the same day makes no sense — too much time goes on entry procedures and getting around inside the complex.
03What to check
The hours of the park, the cable car and the evening boat differ between official publications, so look at the current schedule on vinwonders.com on the day of your trip. In strong wind the cable car is stopped — keep a spare day if the island is a must for you.
Before you goBuy your ticket online on the official website and arrive at opening time: the queue for the cable car grows noticeably by ten in the morning.
