01What it is
Khánh Hòa is known for the edible nests of swiftlets, and the Yến islands are where the birds nest on sheer cliffs. The national tourism portal describes the island as home to thousands of swiftlets, with steep cliffs, forest inside and an attractive double beach — a sand spit washed by the sea on both sides. The provincial portal lists Yến, Hòn Nội and Hòn Ngoại among Nha Trang's islands. The nesting sites are protected, so there is no free access to the island.
02How to plan your visit
A visit is possible only on an organised tour with a permitted landing. Historically such tours were run by the tourism service of the state company that harvests the nests, but its official website did not open on the day of our check, so we do not name an operator or terms. Ask for a tour at the province's tourist information centre or at licensed agencies, and ask to see the landing permit. The passage across open sea is long — only in the calm season.
03What to check
Ask about the visitor limit, the length of the passage, the type of vessel, life jackets and the cancellation terms for weather. From autumn to early winter trips to the open sea are cancelled most often. If you are prone to seasickness, this route is not for you — choose the islands inside the bay.
Before you goBook at the start of your trip, not on the last day: if it is cancelled because of the waves, you will have time to rebook.
Access, opening hours and prices can change. Confirm the conditions right before you pay or leave.
