The southern end of Trần Phú seafront runs into the port. All the departure points into the bay are here — the tourist pier and the cable car station for Hòn Tre — and next to them lies the quiet residential area of An Viên. Further south the Nguyễn Tất Thành avenue heads to the airport. Administratively this part of the city is split between the wards of Nha Trang and Nam Nha Trang.

The south is less showy than the centre: the port, fishing piers, a research institute and the cable car cabins over the strait. Away from the shore lie the even streets of An Viên with private houses and villas. This area is for those who want the islands in the morning and quiet in the evening, not nightlife.
The main advantage is time. The pier and the cable car station are minutes away, so you are on the water or in the park before the groups from the centre. By day, the Oceanographic Museum or the beach at the southern end of the seafront; in the evening, seafood at simple local places or a ride to the seafront.
Đầm and Xóm Mới markets, the cathedral, clubs and most restaurants remain in the centre, several kilometres along the sea. In the morning the pier area is noisy and crowded with tour buses. The port zone is unwelcoming in places for evening walks, so choose accommodation closer to An Viên or the seafront.
According to the ward portals, the former Vĩnh Nguyên with the port and the islands became part of Nha Trang ward, while Vĩnh Trường, Phước Long, Phước Hải, Vĩnh Thái and Phước Đồng formed Nam Nha Trang: 82.18 square kilometres and 130,164 residents. The cable car operator places its station in Nam Nha Trang in one of its articles — addresses in this part of the city can be confusing.
Before you go
Ask the owner which ward appears in the accommodation's official address.
Check the walking distance to the pier and the cable car station.
Find the nearest shop and market: they are few in An Viên.
For dinners in the centre, budget for taxis both ways.
