01The river splits the day in two
The centre and the northern ward beyond Hòn Chồng are separated by the Cái river, and crossing between them takes its own slot in the schedule rather than happening “on the way”. Plan the centre and the north for different halves of the day, not mixed together.
02The islands follow the weather and the reserve's rules
Part of the bay is a marine protected area, and the visiting spots at Hòn Mun have changed even in recent years. Don't put the island day at the start or end of the trip, so there is room to move it.
03Out of town — an hour's drive each way
Ba Hồ, Yang Bay, Dốc Lết and Hòn Bà lie 25 to more than 60 kilometres from the seafront, with no public transport to them. Plan each such day in full, one direction per day.
04The rainy season reshuffles the days
From mid-September to mid-December, peaking in October and November, keep outdoor and sea days flexible. In this period it makes sense to put the city and spa at the start of the plan, and the islands and mountains where there is a spare day to move them.
